Reid Schoenfelderβs music career launched in 1989 as the lead singer and guitarist for the Baltimore-based band The Wanting Seed. They toured up and down the east coast and their album, Valerian, was in heavy rotation on numerous indie and college radio stations.
The Wanting Seed also opened for numerous national acts including Tommy Keene; Aimee Mann; The Posies; Shoes; Material Issue; Ultra Vivid Scene; Trashcan Sinatras; The Samples; Dillon Fence; Dramarama; Tripping Daisy; Dave Sharp (The Alarm); The Aquanettas; The Cave Dogs, and Good Charlotte.
Reid is an accomplished and creative guitarist and plays a Gibson Hummingbird acoustic, a Les Paul Epiphone standard electric, and a DiPinto Mach IV electric. His heart is set on a Hagstrom electric and is seeking endorsement from Hagstrom guitars.
As a gifted lyricist, Reid brings his music to life. Although his lyrics are distinctly autobiographical, the compositional aspect of his music is as familiar as an old friend and rings true with his alt-rock roots. βI really like writing songs that people feel instantly familiar with,β states Schoenfelder. βI really aim to make songs that people canβt get out of their head.β Lush vocal harmonies meet relentless guitar hooks and candid words that forge an amalgamation of power pop that could easily draw comparison to Ryan Adams, Pete Yorn, or Matthew Sweet.
An award-winning artist, Schoenfelder participated in the CMJ Music Marathon (1999 β 2001), the Philadelphia Music Conference, and the Millenial Music Conference. He was the winner of The Akademia Music Award for Best Acoustic Rock Song for βAll the Girlsβ in the June 2016 Akademia Music Awards. Turner Broadcasting bought Schoenfelderβs song βWhat She Wantsβ for use in the Sci-Fi television series βFirstwaveβ for the episode βAll About Eddieβ.
Reid was signed in March 2024 to Blues Highway Records, with the release of his song, Shady Acres which had 108.5k streams worldwide. He has now seen his music find an audience all over the world, and across the US. With over 13,000 Spotify peak monthly listeners since signing with Blues Highway, and The Orchard/Sony distribution. His future is looking very bright!
